Navigating Mental Health in a Screen-Filled World

Coping 101: Screen Break is DANCE 89.5’s student-hosted mental health series exploring how technology, social media, and AI are changing the way young people see themselves, connect with others, and take care of their mental health.

With support from foundry10 and presented in partnership with Forefront, each episode brings together youth voices, expert perspectives, and real-world experiences to tackle the complicated relationship between our screens and our well-being. Topics range from social media, self-esteem, and body image to device addiction, online bullying, digital empathy, and AI as a therapist.

In a world that’s increasingly lived online, Coping 101: Screen Break creates space for honest conversations about what technology is doing to our mental health, and what we can do about it.

Forefront Suicide Prevention‘s Day of Hope

For this special episode of Coping 101, we attended Forefront Suicide Prevention‘s Day of Hope Summit, where high school student leaders from around the Puget Sound sat down to share their WHY‘s for joining in this life-saving work, what they’re doing to help themselves and their peers, and ways that adults can maintain effective mental health conversations with young people.

Most Steer Clear

Coping with life’s stresses and trauma manifests in the decisions we make. Did you know that 9 out of 10 young adults in Washington DON’T drive under the influence of marijuana, alcohol, or other drugs? Most Young Adults steer clear of driving under the influence. Make sure to plan your night out so that you and your loved ones can get home safe. We need to emphasize the positive decisions these young people are making, and this episode dives into practical ways more of us can follow their lead. If everybody takes care of their friends and family, traffic deaths will decrease and we can make a real difference in saving lives across our communities. Seattle high school seniors Dylan, Estelle, and Gavin explore these themes with David Cruz who represents the Most Steer Clear campaign, which spotlights stories and data that show the positive decisions that keep our roads – and loved ones – safe. Tune in for some education, inspiration, and some real talk from today’s youth.
